It’s coming close to that time again folks, the time of year when the annual ‘NYAH’ festival sees Cavan take centre stage in the world of traditional music, song and dance. Now in its Tenth year, the firmly established NYAH was given another boost in recent weeks when Comhaltas, the National Music Authority selected it as a flagship festival for the North West region. This is proof positive that Cavan’s annual celebration of Irish music has truly come of age, and will help in further promoting the county and its music in every corner of the world.
The word NYAH refers to the very expression of the tradition; to the soul and feeling that makes it so unique……it’s about the lift the music can give to the hardest heart. And what better time than the present to let the hair down and enjoy a collective ‘lift’ from all the doom, gloom and depression? NYAH Festival —not for the laid back or faint of heart!

An Italian Fiddler at the April NYAH festival in Cavan?
Marco Fabbri Fiddler will be among our special overseas guest at the NYAH Our local Comhaltas musicians (over 280 Members in Cavan town) will study Italian folk music with Marco. Marco Fabbri is prominent in the music scene of Irish and Scottish traditional music for over 25 years, is considered among the best fiddle players in Italy. Real “session man” Marco Fabbri, was able to grow around him a large group of musicians that feeded the Irish scene in Rome and, with its many workshops, also in the rest of the country. To better seize the vast repertoire, at only twenty years of age he moved to Belfast forming in style, knowing and attending the best musicians and collaborating with local groups. Performed long tour in Europe, especially Brittany and Scandinavia, then , after been invited at the Fringe Festival, moved to Scotland in Edinburgh, where he explored the local traditional style. Back in Italy, founded in 1992 in Rome at Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio, the “Workshop of Music of Oral Tradition”, which is still very strong reality for traditional music. He has collaborated with musicians and groups of other musical genres (Rock & Jazz) and in Italy today represents the only example of a musician who performs solo fiddle with guitar. Catch Marco in concert & workshop at the Backyard Arts centre as part of the NYAH Co Cavan Arts Festival and in sessions throughout the weekend. Web : www.marcofabbri.eu
