An exciting year for Cavan Town Branch since our last AGM.

Its hard to believe its AGM time again.  A very exciting year has been had since we last met thanks to the hard work of our members and committee under the leadership of Martin Donohoe our Chairman.  The weekly sessions which were so successful in 2011 continued every Sunday in the Imperial Bar, many thanks to Martin Donohoe and Family for their continued support and tireless work in this effort throughout 2010,11 and 2012.  The interest shown by children and parents meant that we were able to enter three Groupa Cheoil into the County Fleadh, and the 12-15 Group competing in Dungiven.  This was a great experience for all our young members who enjoyed the practice as much as the performance.  Many thanks to our parents for their support and I’m sure they will join in thanking Martin, Eimear Reilly and Maeve Sheridan, Kavan and Savannah Donohoe for working with the children and improving their standard of playing.

Other highlights since our last AGM were the launch of our website in the County Museum in Ballyjamesduff, our Prizewinners Concert in Lavey Hall, Trad for Trocaire, recording of CD, launch of Fleadh 2012 live on LiveTrad, IFI workshops and concert, workshops from Anton Mac Gabhann, fiddle and Tony O’Rourke, Banjo and Guitar from Australia, playing at half-time in Breffni Park at the Cavan v Kildare game, Countdown to the Fleadh 100 performers in the Market Square, Youth Sessions in Castlemanor and our weekly Summer Seissiun in both Ballyjamesduff and the Farnham Arms throughout the summer.  The Summer Seissiun’s got off to a great start with the launch in the Farnham Arms hotel by Cork’s ledgendary tenor Sean O’Se delighting the crowd performing with Martin and by audience request the famous ‘Poc ar Buile’.  Each week, in each location, we were joined by the cream of traditional music performers from our branch and beyond including Michael Curran, Seamus Fay, Seamus and Gareth Tierney, Eimear and Deirdre Reilly, Sean Nos from Marian Crowe and her dancers, Webber School of Dancing, Ballyhaise Set Dancers, the Breffni Ceili Bands, Gleo, Sean Ownes and the McGovern Family.   Our thanks to all who came and performed particularly our young members and we thank their parents for comitting to these weekly performances in two locations.  Check our our Gallery for photos.  Weekly sessions in the bar also continued on a Wednesday night throughout the year and after the Summer Seissiun thanks to Martin Donohoe, Kavan, Savannah, Sean Owens, Fintan McManus, and many more of our adult members.  It has been an action packed year since our last AGM,  all this and Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2012, so come along on Monday 8th to the Backyard and help us make progress in  2013.  We ask that as many adult members and parents of children playing attend, all our ideas and contributions are valued and help us progress as a branch.

If you are not a member but would like to be part of this vibrant branch, come along and join in at our AGM, new members are always welcome.
